That Freshman Feeling

An author I respect very much, Steven Pressfield, wrote:
"My own theory is that we progress as artists by mini-”hero’s journeys,” one after the other. Each graduation takes us to the next level, where we find ourselves enrolled again as freshmen—and we start the process all over again."

I find this to be absolutely true in my dance journey. Click below, listen and tell me about your learning cycle and how you break through onto the next level.

  1. Ahhhh Gina, you're great! I didnt know you have a blog! Words so spoken so truly. Since I'm lucky enough to live in an area with so many great instructors, I find taking classes and workshops definitely help. Picking up a new prop and/or totally new piece of music is a great way to challenge yourself and take your dancing to the next level. Last but not least, it's always refreshing to learn a new folk dance or a different style from another region of the Middle East. Keep up the blogs, and stay in touch! :)

  2. Hey, Gina! Your blog today made me think of how down on myself I was just last Fall regarding my progress in belly dance. That's when I took your classes back to back & when you announced you were leaving. There was a break from any belly dance at the beginning of the year, & I took Zumba. More recently I've been doing Jazzercise again which I took years ago. In both classes I was encouraged that I could pick up the moves, with a little repitition, of course! Then, back to belly dance with Stacy & she has choreographed a 1:18 routine that our little group of 5 or 6 will perform at Open Stage this Thursday night! Yikes! I finally get to wear my costume & walk through my fear!!! So, I'm glad I didn't quit when I felt down because now I am living out part of my belly dance dream! Thanks to you, Stacy, Aaron & fellow dancers!!!

Can't wait to hear how Open Stage goes! Perhaps there'll be pics? Video? Hello to Aaron and lots of love at you!
